Project Description

Follow the Avon River and enjoy the heritage of Christchurch.

Christchurch’s Inner City Heritage is a sweep in time following the Avon River past sites that became the focus of early contact between Ngāi Tahu (the Māori people of the southern islands of New Zealand) and the first Europeans on the landscape of Christchurch. It guides you to five important historic sites of the settlement, each telling a story on how the first Europeans relied on local Ngāi Tahu to show them the network of trails in the area and to survive in their adopted land.

This mobile adventure was delivered as a workshop at the ULEARN 10 Conference. Since then some sites in it were destroyed by the major earthquake of February 2011. Mobile Adventures Australia visited Christchurch again in November 2013 and it is great to see this beautiful city rising up again from the devastation if suffered.
